Created by a team of Cornell University students, Quarantine Buddy (qbuddy) links isolated students with a “pen pal” to remotely socialize with based on self-reported interests. Users answer a few questions about themselves, and the hosts match them to other people to talk to, either online or by phone.

Close to 130 organizations, including school districts, are participating in Ready4K, a text-messaging program designed to engage parents in students’ literacy development. East of the Rockies is an experimental augmented-reality (AR) story written by 85-year-old Joy Kogawa, one of Canada’s most acclaimed and celebrated literary figures. The story is told from the perspective of Yuki, a 17-year-old girl forced from her home and made to live in the Slocan internment camp during the Second World War.
