Cignition’s FogStone Isle app engages students in designing their own virtual worlds through challenging mathematics games in an environment that makes learning active. Neuroscience, pedagogy, and game design are brought together in this freeiPad app in which students solve complex math problems adapted to their learning level. FogStone Isle aids students in grades 4–8 in gaining conceptual understanding of math topics that students at these levels often struggle with. The app includes alignments to national curriculum and standards, and provides comprehensive reports and valuable assignment and lesson tools. The two latest games include a sawmill that introduces fractions, demonstrating the way they work on a number line, and an equivalent fractions challenge that lets students create wishing wells.
