Video Series Supporting Positive Identity-Building in Young Children

Amanda Gorman has kicked off a new “Word of the Day” video series from Sesame Workshop. Produced in partnership with WarnerMedia Kids & Family, the series harnesses the power of language to nurture children’s positive and healthy sense of self. Each short video features a celebrity guest, including Samuel L. Jackson, Gabrielle Union, Brett Goldstein, Anna Cathcart, Zazie Beetz, Ava DuVernay, and First Lady Jill Biden, as they introduce new words such as belonging, fairness, and proud.

Amanda Gorman’s video introduced the word Upstander. Upcoming “Word of the Day” videos will be featured on Sesame Street’s YouTube channel and the Cartoon Network and Cartoonito’s social channels.

The “Word of the Day” series comes from Sesame Workshop’s ongoing Coming Together initiative created in 2020 after Sesame Workshop saw an increased need to help families talk about race, ethnicity, and culture with their children. The new videos, as well as all the Coming Together content, support caregivers as they help their children navigate an increasingly complex world.
