Program Rallying the Nation to Take Charge Against Bullying and Hate

Children and teens are bullied in schools all across the country, including many Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) youth who face unique cultural, religious, and language barriers that can keep them from getting help. The nonprofit Act To Change empowers students, families, and educators with the knowledge and tools they need to help stop and prevent bullying in their communities.

The work of Act To Change falls into four main areas: Programming, such as #CovidConvos, a dialogue series against COVID-related racism; Curriculum, including the recently launched Classroom Convos to address curriculum improvements surrounding bullying prevention; Policy, involvement with initiatives such as the Hate Crimes Coalition that directly influence policies to help prevent hate, bullying, and racism; and Data, such as a collaboration with NextShark and AMERASIAN to launch a bullying survey this fall to measure widespread incidents of bullying and challenges students are facing today.

The Act To Change website provides resources and other helpful information, in seven languages, to put an end to bullying.

Plus: AAPI Youth Rising was founded in 2021 by middle school students in California to bring awareness to the increase in xenophobia against Asian Americans. The nonprofit organization has asked educators to teach at least one day of Asian American history and culture during the school year. To aid teachers, AAPI Youth Rising launched a program that offers free lessons on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander history.
