Imaginative Investigations of Scientific Mysteries
Discovery Education’sMystery Science inspires K–5 students to stay curious. Video-based, open-and-go core and mini lessons are driven by questions from real students, who guide the exploration of the world around them and inspire curiosity. Through hands-on science and engineering activities, Mystery Science makes science fun to learn, easy to teach, and memorable for all—in person or at a distance.
Each video tells a story through layers of questions and explanations with real-world phenomena, all of which paint a picture for students that is relatable, age-appropriate, and inclusive, and leaves them with a profound new perspective.
The accompanying lesson begins with a mystery to solve. Students embark on an investigation with the first big clue, guided by questions that provoke thinking and discussion, and gather visual evidence to record and analyze. Then they solve the mystery with imaginative hands-on investigations that cultivate science and engineering practices and inspire a love of science.
Every year invention education experts at the National Inventors Hall of Fame develop an all-new curriculum for Camp Invention. The curriculum is filled with hands-on experiences that provide an appropriate level of challenge for students across a range of learning levels in kindergarten through grade 6.
K–12 students are invited to give engineering a try with the 2023 Engineering Challenge from Science Buddies. In the challenge, students use their problem-solving skills to design, build, and test contraptions, using simple materials. This year students are invited to make a device out of paper, string, tape, and paper clips to pick up a ping-pong ball and return it to a start line.
The Tech Interactive is a highly regarded science and technology center in San Jose, California. The museum offers more than two dozen lesson plans and related challenges that look at engineering through the lens of diverse subjects, from data science to English language arts to systems design.
