Grants for Specialized Science Equipment

Society for Science is offering STEM Research Grants to provide support to middle school and high school teachers engaging their students in authentic scientific research. For the purposes of this grant, a research project is defined as an independent investigation by a student that involves experimentation to answer a scientific question outside of regular classwork. Independent research projects are frequently entered into science fairs and other competitions.

Priority consideration is given to schools that support students from low-income communities and demographics underrepresented in STEM fields. Teachers can apply for up to $5,000 to purchase specialized equipment or $1,000 in preselected equipment, including Arduino starter kits, camera traps, and PocketLab sensors.

Deadlines: The application period will close at 11:59 p.m. (ET) on October 31, 2022. Grantees will be notified in late November or early December. Grantees requesting funding for specialized equipment will receive a paper check mailed to their school or school district by December 31, 2022. Grantees selected to receive take-home kits will receive the bulk of their equipment by January 31, 2023, depending on manufacturer availability.
