We Have to Do Something Different is a documentary film produced by the Teaching Systems Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The film provokes important conversations about the big challenges facing schools by taking a detailed look at the small steps teachers around the country are taking every day to help their students succeed.
Educators can screen the film as part of professional development for teachers, with parent or community groups, with a small group of colleagues, or on their own. A variety of materials are available to help educators reflect on and lead discussions about the film. A Facilitators Guide outlines everything needed to organize a screening and lead a discussion. Designed for those planning and moderating a session using the film, the guide contains sample agendas, discussion questions, and helpful tips. A Discussion Slide Deck can be shared at public screenings and discussions, and a Notetaking Tool helps viewers record their thoughts as they watch the film. A short trailer and the downloadable teaching tools are posted on the film’s website.

With the widespread integration of interactive technologies and persistent noise pollution, students and teachers are in distracting and often uncomfortable environments to learn and teach. In a recent survey by Logitech and Education Week, 74% of teachers agreed that students’ level of physical comfort while using educational technology impacts their level of engagement in learning “some” or “a lot.” Research shows that when educators are equipped with the right tools, student engagement and learning outcomes can increase. Join Logitech, edWeb, and CoSN to learn practical and creative edtech strategies and actionable tips to overcome today’s classroom challenges.
