Developed by Killer Snails for iOS and Android devices, BioDive is a virtual reality/digital experience in which middle school students become marine biologists investigating the delicate ecosystems of venomous marine snails. Throughout their expedition, students observe, discover, and hypothesize about abiotic and biotic factors that impact marine diversity.
The app includes four virtual reality (VR) experiences that teach concepts related to nature, ecosystems, marine biology, scientific investigation, producers/consumers, conservation, and the energy pyramid. No special equipment is needed for the VR experience; the virtual reality can be accessed on WebVR on any web-enabled device. BioDive: Lesson Guides provide details about the concepts.
Costs: Single user, $4.99; classroom (30 students), $120; school (150 students), $600. While the BioDive VR app is available as a free download on the Apple App Store and is available on Google Play, registration for the Digital Experience is necessary to unlock the additional content of the VR app.
The EcoTarium offers interactive, educator-led programs aligned to current science standards. Children in prekindergarten through grade 8 can join an EcoTarium educator live on Zoom and engage in science explorations on topics such as Animal Adaptations and Understanding Weather.
