Each month we publish blogs and newsletters full of digital learning, funding, professional growth, social media, and STEM resources. Below are items from our blogs and newsletters that educators turned to the most in January.

1. 2023 Year Game—Developing Mathematical Reasoning
For many years, mathematicians, scientists, engineers, and others interested in mathematics have played “year games” via email and online. It may not always be possible to write expressions for all the numbers from 1 to 100 using only the digits in the current year, but it is fun to try to see how many students can find.

2. Nonprofit That Uses TikTok to Teach How to Spot Misinformation
The News Literacy Project, a nonprofit that helps educators and students learn to judge the reliability of online information, has launched a TikTok account to teach the platform’s users how to spot misinformation.

3. Science Learning Through Food and Cooking
Educators and parents can make use of Bite Scized Education’s accessible tools, including videos, lesson plans, and worksheets that explain science concepts and encourage experimentation.

4. SEL Guide for Infusing Joy in the Classroom
Aperture Education’s new Winter SEL Guide contains 19 pages of social and emotional learning (SEL) strategies, resources, and activities to help educators, administrators, and families get the new year off to a good start.

5. Art Challenge That Gives Back
The nonprofit Students Rebuild invites students from around the world to join the 2023 Welcoming Refugees Project, an adventure of learning, empathy, and art. Students will channel their creativity to welcome people displaced by war and other crises by creating postcards that will be sent to young refugees around the world.
